Our History

Over the last couple of years, we’ve built Las Naranjas Sanguinas around one simple idea: great food, great drinks and the kind of welcome that makes you want to stay for “just one more.”

Led by Lance - our chef with over 35 years in catering and a love for Spanish food shaped by time living and working in Spain, our little bar has become a place for shared plates, easy evenings and lively tables. From the first pour to the last dish, everything we do is about flavour, warmth and bringing people together.

Lance Elvy

Lance has enjoyed a career in catering spanning over 35 years, shaped by experience, passion and a deep love of food. Along the way, he spent many years at The Orange Tree in Wivenhoe starting as a chef and through dedication and creativity, going on to run the venue.

Living and working in Spain deepened Lance’s love for Spanish cuisine, culture and hospitality. That inspiration led him to create authentic tapas, helping The Orange Tree earn recognition as the number one rated tapas restaurant in Essex on TripAdvisor.

Today, Lance brings that same warmth, skill and respect for tradition to every dish. His cooking celebrates simple ingredients, shared plates and the joy of gathering - just as it’s done in Spain.

Our Fantastic Waitstaff

Our waitstaff are the heart of the room - friendly, attentive and always happy to help you find your perfect order. Whether it’s your first time trying tapas or you already know your favourites, they’ll guide you through the menu and make sure everything lands on the table just right.

Tapas is all about sharing and trying a little of everything and our team are great at helping you build a table that feels spot on. They’ll happily recommend a few plates to start, point you towards lighter options or bolder flavours and help you choose drinks that match.

Dishes come out as they’re ready and our waitstaff keep everything moving smoothly, checking in at the right moments and making sure you’ve got everything you need.
